Is WhatsApp not enough?

WhatsApp encrypts message content end to end. The traffic data still accumulates at the operator, and the service sits outside your control. For communication covered by professional secrecy that can fall short, depending on the case.

What is Matrix?

An open standard for chat that you can run on your own server. Messages are encrypted end to end and the accounts stay with you. The French public administration runs its own Matrix installation under the name Tchap.

Does everything have to be encrypted?

No. It is worth doing where the content calls for it. We look at which routes that affects and leave the rest as it is.
