How we build
Open source
Pragmatic, not ideologicalLinux servers and open standards where they are the better answer: fewer licence costs, no vendor lock-in, technology you can inspect. Where your line-of-business software needs Windows, it runs on Windows.
What we work with
On servers we mostly run Linux. The source is open to inspection, security issues are discussed in public and updates arrive quickly. Where a system is especially exposed, on a firewall or a gateway, OpenBSD is often the cleaner choice: kept small, strictly reviewed, secure by default.
It does not fit everywhere. Line-of-business software, drivers and support contracts often dictate Windows, and a system nobody in the building can operate does you no good. We choose by what the business needs, not by ideology.
Hardening
We harden servers and workstations against the CIS Benchmarks, on RHEL-based systems as well as on Windows. We implement what stays workable in production.
Backups
One copy that nobody can delete or overwrite after it is written. Restores are tested, otherwise they do not count.
Network and access
Sensitive zones separated from the rest of the network, guest devices outside. Least privilege for permissions, two-factor login as standard.
Documentation
Documented so another engineer can take over. Your IT belongs to you, including when you change provider.

What makes vetosec different from other IT providers?
We run enterprise grade server systems, mostly on Linux, hosted exclusively in Austrian data centres. On top of that we build and operate our own software and automation, so many problems get caught and fixed before they disrupt your work. And we keep questioning our own work.
Do you take over our existing IT or do we start fresh?
Both are possible. In most cases we take over what already works well and improve only what truly needs it, step by step. You do not have to replace everything at once.
Do you work with cloud or on site servers?
With both. Whether cloud, servers in your office or a mix, we shape the solution around your business and not the other way around.
