Open ports What are open ports and which ones are dangerous?
An open port is a point where a device accepts connections from the network. Every service, such as a website or remote access, listens on its own number. Every port reachable from the internet is part of your company's attack surface.
Open ports are rarely opened on purpose. Typical causes are a forwarding rule set up for remote maintenance and never removed, a printer or storage device with a web interface, or a router that opens services automatically.
